Rt Hon. Lord Freeman Addresses OUCA

** Lord and Lady Freeman will be joining members for dinner after the address. If you would like to come to dinner, email jack.matthews@univ.ox.ac.uk**

An ex-President of OUCA (this term being the 50th Anniversary of his Presidency), former treasurer for the Bow group and chairman of the Carlton club, Lord Freeman has had a varied Parliamentary career, first in the House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Kettering and currently in the Lords as a Life Peer. He held a number of ministerial positions, notably Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Armed Forces, the country's military being a topic on which he still speaks regularly, and Minister of State for Public Transport, a position in which he introduced the bill which would become the Railways Act 1993 and paved the way for privatisation of rail services. He served as a member of John Major's cabinet as Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, an office in which he was responsible for the Government's privatisation programme.
